A picture says a thousand words...

Long story....

but I will make it short. HeadStart called last week. The guy that screwed us is no longer there. A new class is starting and Austin was #1 on the list for it. Today is his first day. Jason has gone with him. It is a orientation day from 10-12am today, with a parent, then tomorrow starts regular schedule of 8-12 monday thru friday. Austin is si cery excited about it. I hope it goes good. Tomorrow will be the biggest test for sure! Here's a pic of him heading out the door...my little, big man!

Pre-Teen Party

Well, Allison had another birthday. She is now 11 yrs old. We had her a "little" bday party on sunday. There were about 10 screaming pre-teen girls in the house. (You'd think I would learn my lesson. LOL) It was actually pretty good. We had cake, ice cream, and watermelon. It was a water party, so we had bought lots of waterguns at the store, and of course water balloons. There was water balloon tossing, watergun shooting, and a good old fashioned water fight! Naturally, I had the waterhose! LOL There were a couple of girls that really got into the waterfight, but I was quick to reassure them that I WAS THE QUEEN-BEE! LOL Here's a few pics!

Still here

Well, the tsunami advisory was lifted last night so no exciting news about that. The Big Island, however, had another earthquake this morning. This makes the 3rd one in the past 3 days. Kindda makes you wonder if the earth is just going to open up and swallow us up! LOL Either that or explode and cover us all in lava! LOL Anyway, just reporting that all is well once again in "paradise".

Fires, and hurricanes, and tsunamis...OH MY!

It has been quite a week here in paradise. As already mentioned, firefighters have been battliing a wildfire just off-post since sunday, then Hurricane Flossie threatened the island chain. Of course, she made the Big Island wet, but quickly fizzled out. NOW, the news just put out a tsunami advisory because of the 7.5 earthquake that hit Peru. They are saying that they don't know for sure if a tsunami was generated yet, but the advisory was sent out. The earliest we could see tsunami waves is 2:14am local time. I am starting the rethink this "paradise" thing. Did Hawaii always have these things occurring, or is trouble just following me??? We have had earthquakes, hurricanes, volcano erruptions(this I know has always been happening), tsunamis, wildfires....what is next? It is not like we can evacuate. We are at the mercy of Mother Nature ( I guess more like Our Father God!). As long as we are not underwater, I'll post more later! LOL

GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!

Firefighters have been battling a wildfire since sunday. It has made its way closer and closer to the post. Here is a picture from my backyard. It has me a bit concerned.....

A Beautiful Offering

I attended a Women's Conference hosted by my church this past weekend. The speaker was Angela Thomas, who is a nationally known speaker and has written several books/bible studies (including A Beautiful Offering). Anyway, it was fantastic! The womens worship team was great. The music was so uplifting! Angela did 3 sessions during the day. She is from North Carolina, but currently lives in Knoxville, TN so it was great for me to hear that southern accent again! I was sitting at the same table as Angela, so I got some great conversation time with her. She is such a great person. And very..."ordinary". (You'd understand the significance of that word if you have heard her testimony before!) Our church also had a luncheon with her on Sunday after church. Again, I was seated at her table. God works in amazing ways...I was so touched, refreshed, and lifted after speaking with her over the course of the weekend. She is truely a woman of God. If you haven't read any of her books, I highly reccomend checking them out.

A few new pics

Allison heading out to the bus on the first day of school. (I am a bad mom. I forgot to take pics of Kailyn and Megan!)

Here is Jonathan working on his 4 wheeler. Jason had been working on his truck, so Jonathan had to jack his up too. You can see that he even got his skateboard out to use as his creeper! He was so funny!!! Like father, like son!

Another example of Like father, Like son....Austin in his PT's and his daddy's baret and sunglasses. I have always said that the boys are "Daddy's little hemorroids!" LOL

Me and my little man goofing off. He can be so sweet at times!

Our cucumbers! We have been growing them for a few months. We started with seeds and wanted to grow something with the kids. We have now harvested 3 of them and have about a dozen more on the vines. How exciting!!!

Finally getting to take a breath...

The last couple of weeks have gone by so fast that I feel like I haven't even been able to stop and take a relaxing breath. Not that I get to do that often anyway, BUT things have finally started to settle down a bit. Here are the latest updates:

SCHOOL HAS STARTED!!!! WOOHOO!!!! The girls are so happy to be back in school again. They all seem happy with their teachers, which makes it much easier on me. Allison is ga-ga about being in middle school. The first day, she came home grinning like a cheshire cat. She said "It was sooooo cool! We get to sit anywhere we want in the cafeteria!" I guess it is the first time that she has had that freedom at school. I told her that it is fun, but with that freedome comes the responsibilty to make the right decisions too. It seems like she is really going to enjoy it this year. She also has to ride the bus. She is out the door at 6:30am and walks back in at 3:15pm. Kailyn and Megan are both having a good start too. They have been "visiting" their old teachers every day after school. Jonathan is just about to start kindergarten. The first week or so is orientation, parent conferences, etc. Tomorrow, he goes to school for 2 hours, then he starts full day on thursday. We had his teacher conference today. She did an assessment of what he knows already. He did really well. She was impressed with him, especially since he has not gone to Pre-school and b/c he is a young kindergartener. In Hawaii, they can start school as long as their bday is before Dec.31. If their bday is between Aug and Dec, then they are enrolled as "Jr. Kindergarten". They are integrated with the older kindergarteners and taught the same things, but at the end of the year, the teachers and parents decide if they are ready for 1st grade or to do K again. Anyway, he is excited about it, and I think he will do good.

The bad news is that HeadStart didn't work out for Austin. After being told that he would defintely have a slot for 2 weeks, the day before he was to start, we got a phone call saying that he did NOT have a slot. Let me just say that I was engaged in a very LIVELY discussion with the HeadStart guy for quite some time. He had a pretty good sense of what I thought about him and what he was doing to Austin. I mean, we have been trying to work with him and prepare him to start school and make the transition as smooth as possible. Not to mention, Austin's doctor has been involved with getting in enrolled as well. We have been going through the process since April to get him in it. Anyway, i am completely discusted with the HeadStart right now. The guy said that he could have a slot open up in a few days or maybe a few months, but I just don't know that I want to deal with them at this point. Maybe it was just God's way of saying that Ausin is not ready to go to school just yet. I don't know, but he will be at home with me for now. Maybe he just needs to be home with me for a while, especially since we are still adjusting medications for him.
