Thanksgiving 2008

So another Thanksgiving has come and gone with my hubby deployed...good news is that it is getting close to him coming home!!! YAY!!! I didn't ever post on our deployment anniversary. It was kindda bitter-sweet. On November 14, he was officially gone for 1 year...365 days...12 months...whichever way you look at it, it is one heck of a long time.
This year, Thanksgiving dinner was at Jamie's house. We split up food responsiblities and had a very enjoyable day. I had several invitations for dinner, and I thank everyone that offered, but last year we did the house-hopping thing and I was wiped out by the end of the day. I decided to graciously decline the other offers and stick to one house. LOL
Here's me and Laura checking on Mr.Tom Turkey and sucking out some of his juices for the gravy. Here is a few of us admiring all of our hard work. Kim, Jamie, Jennifer, Me, Robyn(left to right) The grown-up table.
The kids table.
Another shot of the kids table.
Of course, we had to do something after eating all that food. Here we are having a little band practice...RockBand, that is! LOL Jennifer on guitar, me on drums, Laura on microphone. (Check out that cool tattoo on the drummer...LOL)
Another shot of our Band...it is so much fun! Jennifer on the microphone, Jamie on drums, and me on guitar.
It was such a great day. I am so thankful to all my friends here in Hawaii. Army wives have a bond that a lot of people just dont understand. The things that we have to go through, both good and bad, the way that we rely on each other, understand each other, it is just such an amazing relationship that we have. I am truly thankful to have them in my life.

Orthopedic

Today, I took Kailyn to the orthopedic surgeon to discuss corrective surgery on her foot. We have decided to do surgery (not scheduled yet). Kailyn was being silly and not letting me take her picture while we were waiting. Her she is being a turkey...And here is her xray of her foot. Check out the toe sticking out!!!

cookies, cookies, cookies!!!

Today was COOKIE DAY for Jamie, Laura, and me. We had been talking about baking cookies to send to our hubbies in Iraq, and we finally got to it today. After dropping the kids off at school, Jamie and I went to the commisary to buy all of our ingredients. We then went to Jamie's house and got busy! LOL Here is the counter in the midst of the baking morning...
We actually were baking ALL day. We started after our commisary trip and didn't stop until about 6:30pm! I think we ended up with 7 different kinds of cookies, or was it 8??? It was a lot, no doubt about it! Here we are posing with our almost complete cookie stash...
and here are the cutest cookies of the bunch! Our little turkey cookies! They were so much fun to make. We will have to do them with the kids on another day. They turned out sooo cute. I just know that they will love decorating them by themselves.
So, Jason, get ready for a box FULL of cookies! They will be mailed tomorrow, so you will have some yummy goodness from home SOON! I love you!

Good news about Sears

Hey guys,
Passing on a little good news about Sears...we all need some good news as the holiday season approaches! LOL Read the following goodnews story. Also, you can help our military families this holiday season by donating money for giftcards that Sears will be distributing to military families. You can ask about their Heros at Home Wish Registry. You can donate at any Sears. I already registered for it and hope that we will be included in this wonderful ministry to our military families. Please help to pass the word around!!!
Lori

Subject: Sears - Christmas shopping has already started

I know I needed this reminder since Sears isn't always my first choice. Amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and they haven't withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year?

How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years.
I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.
Pass it on.

Decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I sent the following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department:

I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the Internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement for your company. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item, even if it's cheaper at that store.

This is their answer to my e-mail:

Dear Customer:
Thank you for contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback. Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

Please pass this on to all your friends. Sears needs to be recognized for this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we do appreciate what they are doing for our military!!!

School pics part 1

Of course, with 5 kids, we never get all their school pictures on the same day. Heck, they don't even take them on the same day. But, of course, you always have to PAY for them at the same time! LOL Anyway, today we got Jonathan and Kailyn's pictures. Megan and Austin's should follow either tomorrow or the next day. I will post them as they come home.

Training them right!

My kids, that is! LOL I have my kids hooked on New Kids on the Block (NKOTB), and I love it! LOL Back a few months ago, i bought the Greatest Hits video/cd, and now they BEG for me to put it in the DVD player every time we get in the truck to go somewhere. They just sing their hearts out...we ALL do! And Jonathan even tries to dance like them. It is so funny! I am hoping that I will be able to catch them in concert somewhere before the tour is over, but it is not looking good. If only I was in GA last week, I would have totally been in Atlanta at the concert! I just think it is hilarious that they love them as much as I did/do. LONG LIVE NKOTB!!!!!
